We chatted with Yibei, a Research Analyst based in NYC, who shares what her experience at MarketAxess has been like, as well as her unique hobbies outside of work.

How did you come to MarketAxess?
I was working at Deutsche Bank in anti-money laundering on high-profile cases when a recruiter reached out to me about MarketAxess. It was apparent that this opportunity would enable me to work on cutting edge technology at a company that’s reshaping the Wall Street bond market.
What are you most excited to be working on?
Improving the accuracy and expanding the market coverage of Composite+™, our award winning real-time pricing algorithm! I enjoy using different machine learning techniques to discover hidden relationships among different variables. I am constantly thinking about new methods to effectively highlight MarketAxess’ competitive advantages using data mining and machine learning.
What’s your favorite technology?
Tableau is my favorite tool to build dashboards. It’s much simpler and more fluid than competing technologies, so I can concentrate on the design of the dashboard without spending all my time on the technical part. I also frequently utilize the data.table package in R for big data calculations. It helps me run analytics more quickly and disseminate actionable insights, which was indispensable during the pandemic when nearly every market participant was asking for data.
What’s a fun fact about you?
I have always had an interest in comedy, ever since I was designated a “class clown” in China. When I moved to New York, I decided to take a class in stand-up comedy. It has been an incredible experience! I really enjoy writing and then presenting my material on stage and hearing people’s reactions. One of my friends from class recently went on Jimmy Fallon, so who knows where it might take me!
Since the pandemic has forced me to put comedy on hold, I’ve started acrylic painting. It is a little less of a thrill than being on stage, but I still find it incredibly cathartic.
